Crewe with 638 lots had nothing Ireland related, nor had TRA on 14 May with 550 lots or Railwayana.net. So perhaps supply from Ireland is drying up and prices for the more mundane pieces might finally approach UK mainland levels.

Stafford on 28 May with 420 lots, only had: Lot 231 c/i notice GNR(I) 'Trespassers on the line will be prosecuted'. as removed [sic] condition, £ns, [my vague impression from travelling a bit on GNRB lines towards the end -in the latter half of the fifties. Admittedly just from Dublin to Sutton and sometimes Howth, was that they were usually either blue letters on cream or red on cream, but I may be totally mistaken (but I never saw a white on black). But the ones I repainted forty years ago in red and cream look in perfectly original condition from surviving that number of years in the elements in Belgium, so who knows, but white on black to me is not what GNRI did in their last years which I actually saw in just one place]. So my repainting many years ago (always for me the front of the sign) relected a desire of desplaying it rather preserving it, which was quite oftenly unattractive in its original state.

GNR auctions on 7 October had: a miniature steel staff with copper end ferrule, engraved 'Tipperary-Limerick Junction' with three steel rings £420, a dr poster 'Day trips to Dublin 1955 40s 6d' depicting a view of the city centre with date below £75, a GWR enamel advertising sign 'To Ireland by the new Fishguard route' small version with some edge restoration, vgc. 38x28cm £1150, miniature steel staff, three rings with copper end ferrule, engraved 'Mullingar East-Levington Crossing' £220, Lot 185 BNCR(!) cast iron gate notice repainted face, ex gate back, 27x28cm, vgc, Thankfully seemingly not sold, DNGR coa mounted on board small repair vgc, 38x33cm £40, miniature steel staff, three steel rings, copper end ferrule engraved 'Thomastown-Bennetts Bridge' £440, miniature steel staff with copper end ferrule and 3 brass rings, engraved 'Gowran-Kilkenny' £500, BR(M) 'The Irish Mail' carriage board, maroon ground with straw letters, original condition, 28x13cm £480, 'GNR(I) Dundalk 1918' worksplate, ex loco condition showing plenty of old red paint, cast brass oval, 21x11 £280, 'Beyer Peacock & Co Ltd' worksplate (stated 'as carried by GNR(I) 4-4-0 U Class...carried on the tender and this plate is either from Lough Gill, Neagh, Swilly, Melvin, Derg'), ex loco condition showing both old red paint and later greeny blue paint, cast brass oval, 25x15cm £300.

Justaclickago ending 11 October had: Railway Slides, approx 500 Irish Steam & Diesel, some Kodachrome from the early to mid 1960's but overall a mixture, some Colour Rail duplicates noted but the majority are originals sold with copyright £660, Railway slides approx 210 Irish taken 1980's. Nothing captioned, varying quality, plus 45 Irish Steam copy sides, sold with copyright apart from the copies which are clearly marked £120, Waterford, Dungarvan & Lismore Railway cast iron Gate Notice 'WD & LR Notice - Any Person Leaving This Gate Open Is Liable To A Penalty Of Forty Shillings'. Well rusted both front and back. Measures !??, in view of the many copies of this type of gate notice, it is sold as a reproduction. My comments: While probably a reproduction rather than a fake, as the BNCR gate was in the recent GNR auction, I commend this auction house in pointing to the issue of various pseudo GSWR 4 line gates (and the WDLR gate did exist as well as the Tralee and Dingle Light Rsilway which only exists in an old photo, and maybe a GSR version, but most other initials are fanciful creations)
